Watch It Wednesdays - Thick Brows and a Talk Through Tutorial

Happy Humpday glammies!!!! Since this week I've been getting ready for the wedding I'm doing makeup at this weekend, and I'm not going to lie, I've been rearranging my apartment in preparation for some house guests, I haven't had the chance to film something specifically for watch it wednesdays. Expect one next week though!! Instead I'm going to lay on you a more in depth explanation about eyebrows and include the tutorial I filmed and uploaded over the weekend, so it's still pretty new...right guys? Riiiggghhhttt.

So, we know that thick brows are still the rage as far as trends go. This season we see them go back to a more bold groomed feel and a bit less uber Ombre structured or crazy caterpillar natural. It's what I like to think of as a nice in between, which works perfectly for me! You guys know I've been rocking that since I got over having perfectly quaffed eyebrows (ie I got insanely lazy at upkeep) about a year and a half ago. Oh don't even get me started on my love/hate relationship with eyebrows!! I love the look, but am pretty much over trying to keep them plucked on a daily basis.

Officially over trying to keep them plucked face

I do have a couple tricks I keep in my arsenal to combat my laziness where my eyebrows are concerned. The first one is that I cut my eyebrows. What you say? Yes, I cut them, I personally have very long eyebrow hair, and because I neurotically rub my eyebrows when I'm stressed, I tend to get this mad scientist look to my brows a lot of the time. To fix this I learned this trick and I've been doing this forever, I use a spoolie and brush all my hair so it's stands above the natural line of my eyebrow. Anything that is above that line gets chopped with tiny makeup scissors. It not only helps keep the look a little tidier longer, it keeps me from plucking or pulling them off my face when I am particularly anxious or neurotically plucking.

The next tip is to pick up the Ardell Trim & Shape Groomer Razors. You get 3 for $3.49 and for those days you aren't keen on cleaning up random hairs or the middle/nose bridge area these are fabulous!! They can help reshape your brows as well if you are hardcore like that. I also like to use them (crazy weird tip we can discuss later) to shave my face. Shave your face you say? Yes...it's not because I have dark hair on my face or anything it's because getting rid of the peach fuzz gives a better look to your foundation and powder. I had a lot on mine and the powder on my face would just catch it all the time. But we can like I say talk about that in more depth later.

The final little tip I have for you, which you will see in the tutorial, is to pick up a creamy stick or potted concealer, this and a little detailer brush will be your friend to clean up any eyebrow mistakes and also camouflage little hairs you may have missed. (You can also use this combo to clean up eyeliner/cat winged liner mistakes)

1. Opt for powder over eyebrow pencil.

Powder can be softer and allow a better blendability then pencil as well as catch the tiny peach fuzz hairs that surround your eyebrows allowing you to "fake" that you have a little more hair in your brows. I feel like trying to "fake" large eyebrows with a pencil can lead to overdrawing, my aunt sent me this meme...and it's so true! Put down the pencil (unless you are using it to fill in bald patches see my tutorial) and opt for powder.

2. Find your right shade!!

It may be a little hard to do this, but creating a seamless look that isn't going to scream "THESE AREN'T MY REAL EYEBROWS" is key to this trend. It may take a day or two playing around with brow kits or eyeshadows. Remember, if you are looking at eyeshadows to fill in your brows, they need to absolutely be matte!! Don't be the girl with shiny eyebrows! I know if you are new to all of this the best place to start if walking into a department store isn't your bag, is to pick up a few cheaper eyebrow kits from E.L.F. or NYX and play around with them. If you dye your hair some unnatural color like Pink or what not I would skip matching it to your hair and just match it as closely to your natural eyebrow color as possible. On the flip side, if you are a natural platinum blonde and it looks like you don't have eyebrows, opting for something slightly darker like a taupe could really help to accentuate and frame out your face.

3. Take a day.

Once you fill in those beautiful bold brows, especially for you ladies that love your thin ones and have been rocking them for a cool minute, it's going to look bizarre! You are going to feel like a clown, I get it. But cool out and give it time. It will probably take a couple days for you to get used to it, but remember no one else is going to know this is your first day at the rodeo. If after that couple days you are still uncomfortable with it, think about reevaluating step 2.

I really hope this little run through was helpful. I know that it's really easy to go overboard with your brows, and if tackling this on your own has got you still shaking in your pants, do what I did, I went to a reputable waxer (stay away from a place that will wax you in a chair and seems too good to be true with the pricing) and have them do an initial shaping of your eyebrows. Bring in pictures and really discuss what you are looking for, a good waxer will listen to you and make the transition a little more seamlessly. If you are in the Seattle area, my favorite waxer is Oliver Villafuerte at Milagros Spa and Salon. He is an amazing esthetician and shaped yours truly's iconic eyebrows for years!!!

Alright, well enough for today. I hope you have a wonderful day and I can't wait to hear all about your adventures in brows!!! Check out my eyebrow tutorial for a full walk through on how I shape my crazy brows and a couple more tips and tricks!
